The Art of Newborn Portraiture
Experienced parents will often say “Enjoy these moments, because they go by fast!” Honestly, it’s true. You’ll see your child change before your very eyes, from one nap to the next. This is why booking a newborn photography session matters. Here are 4 reasons you should book a newborn photography session:
Capture all the features. From toes, to ears, to belly button stub, to tiny little lips, you’ll want your newborn’s traits to be captured on film. The newborn stage is the shortest period in human life, and the amount of growth during this time is phenomenal. So why not have their fleating features recorded to look back on?
Everyone can be showcased. You might think that snapping a few photos (or maybe hundreds) of your baby everyday will show their growth from month to month. While this is true, are you accounting for images of YOU interacting with your baby? If so, who is taking these photos for you? A newborn photoshoot is an opportunity for everyone in your baby’s family (parents, siblings, and even furry family members) to be included in documenting those newborn moments. Newborn sessions are the perfect way to celebrate family dynamics between parents and their baby.
Professional photos look amazing on birth announcements and in prints. Professional photographers understand lighting, angles, and have the editing software to enhance or soften features. Using high-resolution photos for your birth announcement allows for your baby to be introduced to friends and family in an authentic, polished manner. Also to note - professional quality photos look crisper and cleaner when printed for display in your home, whereas smart phone pictures look grainy or pixilated.
Experienced photographers enhance your photography session. Working with newborns can be tricky! They can be fussy, hungry, and fidgety during a photoshoot, but photographers don’t sweat these moments and understand the nuance of being patient, calm, and accomodating during a newborn session. It’s our job to help clients feel at ease, even when their toddler is refusing to smile or cooperate - we’re used to going with the flow!
The best time to book your newborn session is during your pregnancy. Newborns are best captured in the 2nd week of life (days 7-14) and there are a variety of options for sessions, such as in your home or in a studio, documentary style or portrait, short or extended.
